My dad Buller was very proud of his football medals which you can see each player is wearing. The player he most talked about was Sammy Crooks who he played against at schoolboy level.Sammy went to school at Bearpark and went on to play for Durham City(then in the Football league),Derby County and England.Dad was at Roker Park in March 1933 to see Sammy play against Sunderland in the F.A.Cup.75,118 spectators were there for Sunderland’s highest ever attendance.Dad’s motto was “if you can’t get the ball get the man”-he would not last long on a pitch nowadays!!!!

My father and Uncle Buller were friends all their lives and when my dad played for Sleetburn School the teacher used to give him a “Tab” cigarette every time he scored a goal. It was great to hear Uncle Buller and my Dad talk about the Old Days My dad always said, “They were not the good old days they were the bad old days as no one had any money”.John are you sure it was Roker Park? We used to call it Joker Park.(Only kidding)
